Getting window trim to cut through compound wall trim or sweep?

If you're using a compound wall with a sweep attached to it, how do you make sure that the window trim and wall sweep clean up nicely? Would you need to edit the family and set a void (instead of opening) that extends into the trim?

If you look at your wall in elevation and click on the sweep, you will see little blue dot grips at the window opening. You can manually drag the sweep off the window trim. It's tedious, but it's the only way I know to do it. Actually, I've made my own wall sweep family (Wall hosted family with void to cut wall, set to Casework category but made out of a Generic Wall-Based template) to do these types of trim pieces.

I tried the void, yet it doesn't seem to have an effect of the wall. just the modelling of the window family.

Adding an opening works, but wrecks the plan view with the window appearing as if it floats in the wall.
I attempted to have the opening range only where the sweep intersects the window, and find the sweet spot where my plan doesn't cut through this additional opening, but this seemed troublesome when I change types, as the opening is not locked to any plane.

At this point, my thought is I either reduce the sweep thickness, or increase the trim thickness as a workaround. I'm thinking this would only affect any section views, but I could omit the dimension, and just draw it.

As I recall you cannot have both an opening cut and a void in the same family, which seems ridiculous to me.

You could try starting a new window family, delete the default opening cut, and then nest in the window family you want to use. Make a void in the parent family that aligns with the trim in the nested family, and that *should* cut the wall sweep trim when loaded into the project.

Here are a couple examples of window families I've made to cut the wall finish material to respond to exterior window casing. The families are made with voids, not openings. (actually two voids, one to create the RO within the wall assembly, and one to cut the wall at the perimeter of the trim.) The voids cut the wall sweep. No modificatiAttachment 88892ons or fussing with the grips required.
