Parametric Door Swing w/ Nested Door Slab
I've been able to create a door family, with nested 3-D door slab, which will open and close with an instance parameter. (Open door "0" degrees to "90" degrees.) Works great.
This works separately from my 2-D door swing (in plan view) that is also controled by instance parameter.
Problem. If I change door WIDTH, the rotation point does not stay "connected" to door jamb. Door becomes detached from door frame, and floats away from door frame. The door is a nested family, created from generic model, and changed to door family.
I've tried a bunch of things, but can get anywhere solveing the problem, including reference lines, or locking hinge side reference plane with the "PIN". Nothing has worked yet.
Any ideas/suggestions?

One thing that yo might check:
Make sure that the edge or point of the nested door that you are trying to constrain (align/lock) is the origin of the nested family, and not some other point on the door's geometry.
RE: Parametric Door Swing w/ Nested Door Slab
Thanks for the suggestion. I've made a new door family with the origin at desired rotate point (in plan). The door now "slides" along the one of the desired "swing - face of wall" work planes, instead of totally floating. I believe that I'm close now. How do I lock this rotate point to the intersection of two vertical reference planes (in plan) such as the intersection of the "swing - face of wall" and "hinge side" work planes.?
RE: Parametric Door Swing w/ Nested Door Slab
Try setting up your swing dimension on a reference line. You can align lock the end of the line both a horizontal and vertical reference to your hinge point. Just keep tabbing until the endpoint is selected when using the align tool.
Flex once your done to make sure it works, then align lock your nested door leaf to it, and flex again.
If that does not work, post your family, and someone will figure it out.
Sometimes these issues drive me straight home to the Cabernet this late in the week and at this time of day!
Good luck...

Steve Stafford posted on his blog some good stuff about reference lines that might be helpful:
