My firm has nearly 300 custom Ribbon commands in AutoCAD 2009, including a custom bitmap icon for each command. Although you won't find it in any documentation, 2009 allowed you to make your ribbon icons just about any size (not just 16x16 or 32x32 pixels). So we made all bitmaps 20x20 pixels for three reasons:
1. Good size..not too small, not too big
2. Could add more detail to icons than 16x16 would allow
3. Ribbon drop-downs would display same 20x20 icon; no need for two sizes of same icon
Unfortunately, AutoCAD 2010 displays all of our 20x20 icons at 16x16 and therefore they are blurry. And it displays them at 32x32 in drop downs, again blurry.
Don't understand why Autodesk had to eliminate the icon size flexibility that existed in 2009.
Before I start remaking 300 icons, does anyone have any suggestions?
