    Default Family compatibility

We're new to Revit and I was wondering...as we upgrade to the 2010 version will our in-house created families work with 2010 and 2009?
In other words, are the families version specific like the .rvt files?

    Thanks for any insight.

They are version specific. We have folders for 2008, 2009, and eventually 2010 for the families to reside in. They are NOT backward compatible.

Remember if you load 2009 families into a 2010 project, it will not update the family file, it will only upgrade it for that project.
