Default How to change title block color

I am having trouble with a title block and border in Autocad 2010.

I inserted a border and title block and the borderline and the lines in the title block are red. I read the once again useless help file, and it explained how the border and title block are DWG files, where to find them and how to customise. ( Everything but the lines.) What posessed them to make those lines red in the first place? Ok so I edited the lines and saved. In the title block file they are now black. When I bring the file in to my drawing they are still red. I also saved the file, as they suggested, with a different name and added it to the list with the AMOPTION command and I can now select the new title block but when I load that, the border comes in but the title block does not. I have read the help file over and over again and searched the help file and the net and no answer. Can you suggest a laypersons explanation of how to actually do this?

    Thanks Neil

My first guess is that you need to PURGE the drawing. Just because you delete a block (or explode one) doesn't mean the reference of the title block is gone. Then reinsert the block.

did u try insert <enter> then the file name with the = sign <enter>
    in other words insert <enter> test= <enter>.

if you inserted the title block as block, u need to reinsert it using the = after the file name

now if you inserted it as an xref you need to set the variable visretain to 1, if set to 0 it will hold the block at the color of the xref that was used when first inserted,

    gl with the problem

I believe you have that backwards
visretain = 1 hold colors of xref files (doesn't update color when xref updates)
visretain = 0 updates color changes in Xref when xref updates.

P.S. visretain also affects layers (if frozen they are turned on)

if you read what i typed i suggested that he needs to set visretain 1
and i also stated that if set to 0 it will retain the colors of xref when inserted.

i have never seen visretain turn on frozen layers that is a new one to me

Exactly backwards. 0 updates the colors of Xref to the color changes made in the original
1 retains the colors of the Xref regardless of the color changes made in the original.
if the OP has the title block xrefed and he opens the file with the title block in it and changes colors and saves. he has to reload the Xref when he does this and the visretain is 1 the colors will not change. If the visretain is 0 the when the xref is reloaded the colors will change but also any frozen or layers will be unthawed or on again so he will have to reset the layers. It would be easier to just change the color in the drawing the title block is xrefed in.
