Default Strip out layout tab when publishing

I'm looking for a way to strip out the "layout tab" name when creating plot files while using Publish. By default, Publish will automatically add the paperspace layout tab name to your output file name. The only way I've found around this, so far, is to manually rename each sheet in the Publish dialog after selecting all sheets for plotting. Too time consuming.

The desired effect is to have a plot file that displays the same name as the dwg file name with a different file extension. Any ideas?

I'm working on a particular project wher we only ever have the latest version on our computer (the restare backed up on something called Arenium) .. therefore the drawing file name doesnt contain the revision number. I put the revision number in the layout tab name so when printing you get the full drawing number with revision.

Other than that .. I dunno.

There is nothing you can do within AutoCAD, before 2010. However, other software such as the Bulk Rename Utility makes it very easy to fix the filenames after the fact.
