Default How to place beams on multiple floors. But wait, it's not that simple!

We have a number of high-rise towers (50-90 floors, each), for which we've created floors using masses. Worked great!

Now, we need to add steel spandrel beams at the perimeter of each floor. Here's the rub--the exterior walls slope in 0.8% over the height of each building. So, each beam will be offset a few millimeters from the one at the floor below.

We'll have other items that also need to be placed the same way. Any suggestions as to how to do this quickly? TIA for any help.

We have worked on a high rise building with a similar situation. Each floor came in a certain distance and some floors came out a certain distance. This was to create a curve effect for the building. To accomplish this without having to modify every floor, we created a family. This family contained the floor which was controlled by parameters that would change the edge of slab offset based off the floor level. The framing and shaft openings were also added to this family. The framing at the edge of slab was locked to the parameters which controlled the offsets. This worked quite well and allowed us to make changes very quickly without having to modify each level.

If you are on subscription, you could try the "Excel Based Model Generation" extension.
I have not used it, so I don't know the limitations, but it seems like this would be the ideal sort of application for a tool like this.

The nested family suggestion has a lot of merit- you can change things at a later date, and everything should move based on your formulas- but it could come at some overhead cost with all these elements being driven by some constraints in the model.

However, if you're confident these are going to stay in the same place once you create them, the Excel extension might be the way to go.
