Default Type of Parameter Properties and their Values

I am in the process of creating schedules for my company. I would think it would be easier on me on knowing what the values are when I create parameter properties for that family. For example: I am creating a schedule for cooling towers. I need to select parameter properties GPM (Gallon per minute) or Fan horse power. When I select the correct "Discipline", to select the correct "Type of Parameter" I need to know what the value its going to give in my schedule. My question is is there a list that gives the values when I select the "Type of Parameter". I don't want to created all theses parameters and find out in the end I selected the wrong "Type of Parameter & start all over again blindly. Any help would be appreciative.

I check "Settings" --> "Project Units" first to see in what kind of units the parameters is expressed.

If I want to create a shared parameter for condenser water flow, I check to see which of the "piping" discipline parameters is expressed in GPM.

Its a good place to start.

Do you want the values or the units?

Revit won't guess the value for you. You can either set the value in the Family Types dialogue or in the project environment.

As the previous poster noted, you can look to the Settings>Project Units section to see what units are associated with each "Type of Parameter." There is not anyway you will be able to get Revit to show you the unit type next to each respective option under the "Type of Parameter" pull-down. Sorry...
