Red face Plotter search shortcut warning

    Hi, All!
I'm getting a warning on one of my users computers when they open AutoCAD 2008. It says it's an AutoCAD Warning and the dialog box reads as follows:

"The following shortcuts in the plotter search were invalid and ignored: ......<first part of path here> \AutoCad 2009 pc3 files\.lnk"

This is on a network mapped drive that all of us use. Only one user is getting this error. It's only when they open AutoCAD for the first time, not when opening any other drawings. It will plot, but it now takes an extremely long time. Half of us are using 2009, the rest are on 2008.

In our "Plotter" folder on this drive, there are 2 folders, one is AutoCad 2008 pc3 files, the other is AutoCad 2009 pc3 files. I've gone through the Files tab on Options, and made sure everything was pathed to the correct folder, but it still shows this warning when opening AutoCAD. Where would the invalid 'shortcut' be stored? I'm not sure where to look.

    thanks for any help!

Thank you! That did the trick.

However, with my limited knowledge of networking and so forth, I had to go about it in a round-about fashion.

If it'll help others, here's what I did:

The user's computer somehow was pointing to a shortcut ("C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2009\addplwiz.exe") which didn't exist on his computer because he only has 2008. So, I just 'faked it out' by creating an AutoCAD 2009 folder in his Program Files folder on his C drive and copied the addplwiz.exe file into there. Now, the computer can 'see' the target of the shortcut without really needing to use it. Now, there's no error on start-up of AutoCAD and there's no delay in printing or in the plot window appearing.

    Sweet!

If there was a smarter or better way of fixing this, please let me know.

Sounds like a good enough solution to me.

Why not just redirect it to the path "C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2008\addplwiz.exe" which should already exist?

You know, I did actually think of that, but I don't know where 'it' is in order to redirect it! I changed all the search paths in 'Options' but that didn't seem to work. I guess I'm not sure where AutoCAD has this shortcut, or why it's pointing to the one that it is, but it's a shortcut on a network, so if I changed it there, everybody would be affected. I didn't know what negative outcome that could potentially have, so that's why I went about it the way I did.

    Whatever works is good enough.

Oh yeah - "it" is the shortcut that you mentioned.
