Default 3D graphics card - which is best?

    Hi,

Inspiron 9400 - Windows XP pro

When I bought my laptop I asked for a card suitable for AutoCAD 3D work. No problem they said, but now I know a little bit more I find I have a non certified card. My laptop is having to go in for repair, so at the same time I thought I would get a GOOD 3D graphics card.
Can anyone suggest the best certified card to use?

I know its probably a difficult question to answer, but I don't know the benefits or pitfalls of randomly choosing a vendor, or a particular vendors card from AutoCAD hardward list. I guess there are some that you know don't work too well.

    Thanks

    Maurice.

Well it also depends what Autocad release you are using, windows XP or Vista, 32 or 64 bit.

Have you seen the Autodesk FAQ for graphics cards, plus there is also the certified list which you may have already seen.

We generally use Nvidia Quadro FX series they seem to work well but are a bit pricey.

I've got a Quadro FX card as well. It works well. I also had ATI FIre GL cards. I liked those, too. The Nvidia seems to give me a litle less trouble, though. That could also have something to do with it being a newer card.

Either should work well for ya.
