Autosave taking forever and .ac3 is 253MB!

I found out why my Autosave was taking 3-5 minutes by looking in my temp folder and finding the ACAD temp file (.ac$) was 253MB.

How can this be resolved?

My only thought is the number of x-ref's. It's a stair section file so of course we have 6-8 x-refs that also have 1-2 x-refs in them for a total of 17 or so x-refs in the file. However in acad 2005 this was never a problem.

Maybe it's something else, i have never seen this before so i am up for any suggestions.

Xref's won't bloat a file by themselves. An xref to a drawing is just another block record.

What version of AutoCAD is this?

Have you sorted this out yet? I have been having a similar problem with my files saving 50% larger than the any other in the office and Xref in the drawing makes matters worse.

Would like too find a solution one of these days so I don't have to work with slow drawings all the time, plus the boss gets annoyed when he has to open and save a drawing for me to bring things down to a managable level.

A few things which bloat and / or slow drawings:

• Registered Apps ... -PURGE RegApps *<ENTER>No
• Annotative Scales ... search this forum for some solutions
• Null entities, like empty text ... OVERKILL and also search these forums (including the customization and programming forums)

There's probably some more, but this should get you started.
