Post the open command window doesn't show

When I choose open through the file menu or Icon the open window doesn't show and the AutoCAD doesn't respond from that point.
I found out I can open a drawing when I go to the project folder in explorer and just double click a drawing, but can't open other drawings once inside the autocad 2008
I installed norton360 close enough to suspect there might be a connection but can't say for sure

    Hi, welcome to AUGI.

Do you see prompts on the command line? If so, set FILEDIA to 1.

Does acad return to the command prompt after you press ESCape? If so, the dialogue may be opening off-screen.
