Default 2009 - Low Virtual Memory Problems

We have a lot of users having problems with low virtual memory. The project is about 106MB which doesn't seem that large compared to some I see posted here. They are still running XP 32bit on stations with 4GB Ram, 8GB swap file.

Typical user: When first opening the project, worksharing monitor is reporting:
56% used of a total of 2GB virtual memory
47% used of a total of 3.25GB of physical memory

About every 2 hours they are getting the Low Memory warning. What is the practical file size that Revit (32bit) can handle? Do we need to start breaking up the model when it approaches 100mb? Our 64bit stations don't have problems, but not everyone has one yet.

We've experienced these kinds of issues with similar file sizes. How many windows in Revit are your users keeping open? That really eats into your virtual memory.

Good question. I hadn't realized that. I will see if that makes a difference.

    Thanks

I've noticed that if you run another instance of Revit on your computer (you don't even have to open a file...), the notification goes away and if you look at your performance monitor, you now have 6 GB of virtual memory (with the 3GB switch)... I don't think this really gives you 6GB of memory, but it gets rid of the notification and allows you to close out views and or worksets...
