OK, before I lose my mind.

I am trying to set up a template that holds all our office standards.

I want the project browser to look like this:

Mechanical - Levels (1,2,3 etc.)
Electrical - Levels (1,2,3 etc.)
Plumbing - Levels (1,2,3 etc.)
Fire Sprinkler - Levels (1,2,3 etc.)

For the life of me, I can't find how to add a new discipline.

make the copy and go into the properties of the view (view properties since it will open when you create the copy), then just type it under subdiscipline, if you dont have this in the view properties you will need to write a project parameter for it and change your browser filter...check out the default-mechanical.rte to see how its done.

You cannot add another discipline like the ones that exist. You can work around it like stated above with additional parameters, but the only "disclipines" available are the ones you can select.

First of all I would strongly recommend seperating templates into own discipline.

Having a combined MEP template is suicide, unless the job is the size of a milk truck .

Your template itself will be difficult to manage and too big to be practical. Mechanical may require HVAC layout, chilled beam/pipe, Electrical requires; power, security, lighting and maybe comms, Plumbing and fire seperately as well.

As for discpline you cannot modify the Discipline but you can rename the sub discipline, and turn off the Discipline filter and set it to sub-discipline as priorty in the filter tree.

On your project browser right click on the Views(Discipline) - thsi is at the very top. Than edit the Value in Type Parameter box. You can set any Project browser layouts here. To create your own sub-discipline, its very easy, just right click and refering view and type in the sub discipline.

This is how I set up Fire Protection discpline, Security, and any other odd ones in between.

I actually found that it was quite easy to do exactly what I wanted!!!

So, under Views (Discipline) I have:

Electrical
Lighting
Floor Plans
1st Floor
2nd Floor
Power (same)
Mechanical
HVAC (same)
Plumbing (same)

What I had to do was to go into View - View Properties and use exactly what is given there. I had a lighting view, created a duplicate, then in the duplicate I changed discipline to mechanical and sub-discipline to HVAC, and voila!

Rinsed and repeat, and got it just like I wanted.
