    Default Oracle Connection Error

    Hello,

I am trying to make an Oracle connection between Map 3D 2010 and Oracle 10g. Oracle client 10g is on the workstation and the tnsnames.ora file has the correct entries. We are also running Vista.

    Below is the error:
"The specified credentials are not valid or the provider is unable to establish a connection."

Are there any known issues with the oracle connections?
    Thank you, Freda

No know issues that I know of, just make sure the client services are running and the correct service name is given.
Welcome to AUGI. How's the back doing?

The back is good thank you for asking

The service name is correct as i have used the same parameters with success several times on different machines.
Could it be permissions on the workstation?

I have been trying to connect my customers with varied success. one i can connect through SDE and the next I can not.

it might be the permissions on the workstation yes, or the users permission. If you tried to log in as the DBA/Admin do you still get the error? Can you connect to Oracle using the Oracle Client?

    Hi Murph,

I went around to all our workstations and here is what i came up with.

To follow up on my connection issues using Map 3D straight to oracle or using an SDE connection. Our workstations use an Air Force Standard Desktop Configuration (SDC) for security purposes.
The problem is all in what version of the SDC is on each workstation. We are looking into fixs that will not comprimise the SDC.

The latest version will let us use SDE connection but still not Oracle. I will have to wait on the admin folks to come up with a workaround.

When I started the post i had the problem on a machine with an older SDC. Solution, have the computer guys upgrade the machine witht hte latest SDC.

    Thanks,
    Freda

I had problems or headaches with the DOD security before at customers sites so I know what you are up against. Heck even AAFES had me locked out of their on-line store the other day. : (
Once you get the IT Admin/SDC working and you still have problems you might want to file a support request in your subscription site, that way you should get a respond straight from Autodesk
