    Default annotation symbol scale

I'm attempting to create a horn/strobe family using an annotation symbol for the plan view.

What I'm not understanding is how the scaling of this symbol will work. In ACAD, I would draw the symbol at 1:1 and scale it according to the drawing scale I was working in, x48 for 1/4" scale, x96 for 1/8" scale, etc. Digging in to one of the receptacle families that came with Revit, I see that the annotation symbol is 11/64" tall when created but is almost 9" when inserted into a 1/4"=1'-0" scale drawing.

What determines how the annotation symbol will be scaled?

    Thanks for any help offered.

If the annotation symbol is 1" tall in the family, it will print 1" tall, doesn't matter the scale of the view you inserted it.

Then how come when I change the scale of a plan view the receptacle symbols in the view change size? The receptacle symbols are annotation symbols embedded in a receptacle family.

Well, if the receptacle is, let's say, 1" and you add it to a wall that is 6" wide, at scale 1:1 the receptacle will be 6 times smaller than the wall thickness. Now if you change the scale to 1:100 the receptacle will get bigger to be able to have the same 1" tall when you print the view.
