You said "How do I stop it from opening multiple sessions? Is there a switch somewhere?" and "it opens a version of the program with each file?"

    I said "Only if SDI = 1."

You said "Both are set for 1." and "I have two pc's-One has SDI set for 1"

So your question was answered.... and you never mentioned anything about crashing until now.

So Windows itself crashes? Meaning what? BSOD?

You're right, I asked how to stop windows from burning up all the resourses. I never change taskbar, so I thought the multiple sessions I saw in the task manager were actually that-multiple sessions used for crash protection. Now, I understand how taskbar is changing the apperance of AutoCAD in the taskmanager, as well as the windows taskbar.
So, is the user experiencing a situation where her files are so big that she can no longer open more than four or five of them at a time, when, with the 32 bit version, she could open say, a dozen? Or is there something else I should be looking for, maybe outside of Autocad MEP 2011?

    Possible but unlikely.
I'm working on a 55 Mb file open in two sessions - both 2010 or both 2011 or one of each and it didn't crash Win7-64 even before upgrading from 4 Gb of RAM to 8 Gb. It was just unuseably slow.

If AutoCAD didn't like my old plotter definitions, and paused the first time I brought up AutoCAD, as if it is determining if the definitions, styles, descriptions, etc. were legitimate for the 64 bit system, could this be causing huge resource problems?
