Default Ribbons grey out in MEP 2010

My team and I are experiencing an issue with MEP 2010 where our ribbons grey out, and the only way to fix the issue so far is to do a shutdown of AutoCAD and restart.

I am trying to document what commands seem to be a trigger - one person on Autodesk forums thought it might be the window switch buttons, but I am not sure. My problem is that usually during design, I am intent on what I am doing, NOT the stinkin' ribbons! I still use alot of 2 letter key commands, so I don't pay attention to other parts of the workspace until I need them!

I have a service request in, but if anyone else is experiencing this heart burn, please let me know, and I'll try to steer the service techs here.

Do you have both the AMEP.cuix (or whatever it is called - I only use AutoCAD Architecture, not AutoCAD MEP) and the ACA.cuix loaded at the same time? There is a known conflict when doing this, due to the fact that both have contextual ribbon tabs defined for the same command/action. One commonly reported situation is when adding or editing MTEXT. The problem is both contextual ribbon tabs attempt to activate, causing the hang up.

The solution is to not load both CUIX files at the same time. If you must have some of the items in the ACA.cuix file (that are not present in the AMEP.cuix), then you would be better served by creating a copy of the ACA.cuix file and deleting the contextual ribbon tabs (or, at the least, those that apply to objects/actions that are already covered in AMEP.cuix) from the copy or starting a blank CUIX file and transferring only those items that you really need. There are a number of other threads here and in the Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture Discussion Group that may offer additional advice and insight into this issue.

Yep, that was the issue, Dave. The folks at Support gave me a fix, and I spent a day or so learning the CORRECT way to add commands....and now everything is sort of hunky-dory!
