Stairs to join slabs

Why can a stair not "join" the geometry of a floor slab if they are made of the same material. It is a real pain

Now why would one like to use such a roundabout route...

Can't they just make the stair work properly?

How about the option of actually sketching the flight(s) in section and extruding the width to create the 3D model
