    Question Change to excel docs

    I have part of an excel spreadsheet inserted as an linked OLE object that has been working fine updating and all that but......

    The Engineer has now inserted and extra line so that the final line now drops off the bottom of the sheet.

    Is there a way of redefining the existing cell extents so I do not have to reinsert?

    Many thanks

    Richard McDonald

    Hi

    Have just experimented here and found the following works -

    Excel Document -> Print Area -> Set Printable Area -> Copy to Clipboard

    AutoCAD -> Paste Special -> Paste Link

    Excel Document -> Make amendment (Add or Delete data) -> Save

    AutoCAD -> OLE Object automatically updates correctly (if that doesn't occur look at the OLELINKS command).

    With the above little experiment I found setting "Set Printable Area" initially appeared to be the key in getting this to work.... sorry haven't got the time or really the need myself to experiment further; would be probably be wise to experiment further -

    Are there issues / problems with the method I gave above (might be as I've only experimented quickly, therefore not fully tested).

    Are there other methods that will achieve the same results.

    Are there other requirements that need to be taken into account.

    etc

    Tested with (the combination could be very important in getting the results that I obtained above) -

    Windows XP Pro
    Excel 2003
    AutoCAD 2005

    ID: TS76460 - Requirements to copy or paste Microsoft Excel OLE objects

    Below snippets come from DotSoft & JTB World -

    AutoCAD 2004 Review:

    <snip>
    OLE Page Size: If you are running Windows & Office XP, you can paste large spreadsheets into the drawing without truncation. All other OLE problems remain, and you still cannot paste multi-page Word documents.
    </snip>

    <snip>
    OLE copy from Excel has not the old limit if Office XP is used. SP 1 is needed. You can now have a 256 column X 10000 row spreadsheet if you have the system RAM to accomplish it.
    </snip>

    AutoCAD 2005 Review:

    <snip>
    Paste from Excel: When using the PASTESPEC command, the Product Entities option now creates a table. If you are using Windows XP with the latest Microsoft Office, this does a much better job than previous releases but its still not perfect and there is no link to automatically update. On Windows 2000/Office 2000 the results are usable but bear little resemblance to the spreadsheet as all formatting is lost.
    </snip>

    <snip>
    OLE objects should behave more like any other AutoCAD object. They are still real oddballs. Rotation is one wish.
    </snip>

    Have a good one, Mike
