Default How to make an inserted Raster Image's background transparent ?

I am having difficulty in placing a bitonal image (black and white) in Autocad 2007 making the background of the image transparent.

I am using a .PNG image with a tranparent background. When I place it in powerpoint the background does not show up (is transparent) hence whatever is behind the image shows through it.

I have tried doing the following in AutoCad:

Insert/Raster image reference/(insert the file on screen)
    (select image)/(right click for properties)
(change transparency to 'yes' under miscellaneous in properties
    REGEN

    - But the background of my image still shows up - it is not transparent

Can anyone help me with how this can be done to make the background transparent ???
    Thanks

Try converting the image to a bitonal TIF.
PPT can recognize an alpha channel in the png, but Autodesk can't AFAIK

.TIFF image file doesn't seem to work either.
My understanding was that only .PNG and .GIF support transparent backgrounds ?

The raster transparency in Acad is not the transparency in the image. that is the alpha channel, which autoCAD does not utilize. Basically in ACAD set the white in the tiff to be the transparent color. The black then displays in the color of whatever layer it's on.

Black and white only, bitonal. not grey scale. Tiffs work, a b/w GIF may, not sure about png.

Did you try changing our image file to a .bmp? That's what we use for transparent images. Good luck!

    THANKS very much guys.

    Problem solved

My images weren't bitonal, just black and white greyscale. I'm able to edit them in GIMP to make them bitonal

It works now by selecting white colour in image properties and selecting 'transparent-YES'

    Thanks again !!!
