I've used Revit in Microsoft Virtual PC and Sun's VirtualBox. Both worked well after installing the VM client software for the video and mouse drivers. Currently, we use Virtual PC over a WAN and it works great until you try to do a 3D view. It doesn't orbit smoothly, but otherwise 2D runs well.
VMware on Mac Book Pro with Windows XP Pro was OK up to RAC 2008. I hated the mouse movement though - it was always a little hesitant and sometimes jumpy.
RAC 2009 had already performance problems, due to small amount of RAM that I allocated to VMware (I went for 50% ≈ 2GB out of 4GB total) for fear of bogging up the MAC running underneath. Maybe I could allocate more - didn't try... Went straight to Boot Camp and I am a happy camper - no problems whatsoever...
And of course I wouldn't even dare to try RAC 2010... It is hopeless on my desktop PC with Vista 64 and 8GB RAM, so I don't think it would be any better on VMware...
