    Default CAD over Sharepoint

Has any worked with AutoCAD 2010 in a Sharepoint environment? My office uses sheetsets in our standards and would hate to loose the functionality of it.

I've been informed that we are moving to a Sharepoint environment and was looking for some lessons learned.

Lesson: Project Navigator/Sheet Set Manager does not work in a SharePoint environment.

Lesson: RefEdit an XRef that is located in a SharePoint folder is not a supported workflow. AutoCAD will expect to edit the DWG directly, and has no idea how to check out the drawing from the SharePoint server.

Do not let IT push you around on this. They can put a link to a traditional network folder within SharePoint's project sites for the DWG files. Until AutoCAD fully supports SharePoint there will be far too many issues.

    howdy!
I can't speak to the Sheetset element of Sharepoint, but we are evaluating the use of a small program called CAD2WIN to allow references and images and the like.
Seeting up a folder as described works nicely too.
Our files are only 10-15 pages, so we've done away with using the Titleblock as an XREF and use fields instead.

    Best of luck

I was just asked if CAD2WIN was a way to go. I would like to know what your thoughts of it where.

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you are primarily a heavy duty AEC firm where the level of CAD use is upwards of 60-70% of a day for people, CADtoWin may not be the best option. Sheetsets are supported (yet...), and there seem to be a lot of breakdowns.
If you're using several XREFS overlaid to get a final product, it seems more prudent to look at setting RPM to look at a folder structure to a common server (or set of servers?). i don't know how that would work if you have different people in different locations that need to rely on the same files for a complete project though. (Utilities in one office, grading in another, E/S in yet another all relying on the same base files to do different tasks)

I've had a moderate degree of success even using the stripped down trial version that has just about all of the power taken out of it. Seems like there could be a lot more programming out there like this one, but I don't know if there has been enough interest in Sharpoint development in the AEC world yet to see it.
Again, it depends greatly on what you want to do with it.
We do 200 projects in 8 months, and each project is only 12-15 pages of which 11-14 pages are all paperspace text, details, or tables. We only use viewports on one or two sheets, and the information is all contained in a singular file, not multiple XREFs.

    2 cents.
