    Default Tool palette sharing.

    Hello all.

Im looking for info on the best way to share palettes for our cad people here. They are all using Acad 2008. We have a "company" palette that has tools that everyone needs, and going to each machine to change the tools isn't working for us anymore. What's the best method to share these from a common place?

    Thanks!
    Mark

Save the palettes out to a network location (read only to the users) and point to the users to that location through the Options dialog "Tool Palettes File Locations".

Best way is to do the following:

    1. Create a network folder, and copy the current Tool Palettes there.
    2. Give the "CAD Manager" admin rights to the folder, everyone else read only.
    3. Add a path to the Tool Palettes Support Directory to all machines
Now everytime the Palettes get updated or changed, they will automatically update across the network to all stations. And since everyone else is Read Only they can't ever overwrite the changes reflected from the admin. Easy as cake.

I made an oops. I really meant to say toolbars. Sorry about that. I think there is more involved with toolbars and using CUI files.

    Thanks

You can use the same method. Whatever path AutoCAD sees first with the CUI/CUIx files wins in the order of paths.

Well i put the CUI file in there. Does it still need to be manually added as a partial CUI file? The tool palette doesn't show up either. Do i still need to do something else, like import it manually or should it just show up?

Yeah, you'll need to add them. They're there, just select them. For instance, on the Tool Palettes, type CUSTOMIZE and create a new Palette Group, then drag/drop the newly found Palettes from the left column to the right in the group. They should show up as the last Palettes in the list on the left hand column.

I've just discovered that you can drag and drop a palette into a drawing session.
I did add the path first; that's probably important.
