Default Layer Properties Manager Window BLACKOUT 2011

when the layer manager is open in Autocad Architecture 2001 all of the layer information is blacked out and I cannot see the layers and their info to "Manage" anything. Where is the glitch or setting to fix this? This is a mess!
Any ideas or suggestions would be great. I have wasted way too much production time trying to work through all of the settings.

Check that your display driver is the latest adesk-approved one for your graphics card.
    Grey boxes - there's a program-related reason; black boxes - usually a display problem.

Are you working on a dual-monitor system, and what OS are you using?
