Default Why does my model not appear as a solid?

In my classes the students can create a simple model and when you extrude it the model appears as a wireframe look even though the settings are set as a shaded view. On my laptop that I teach from the images show as the standard gray material (As Material). If we are all using the same software (Inventor 2010) then why do we get different images?

Thanks for all the responses. I found another question posted elsewhere that was the same issue. It seems that our cheap school computers do not have a good enough video card and so we have to run on the lowest settings to keep from bombing out.
