Blotchy model patterns

I have a file that is showing blotchy surface patterns, both on screen and when printing. This happens on both Windows 7 and Windows XP, 64 bit & 32 bit, printing vector and raster. These are design drawings, so there is a fair amount of Split Face work going on, but when I deleted the Split Faces I just get one pattern, but still blotchy. I tried Split on the wall, so each area with a different material painted on would be an individual wall, but that just made things worse if anything. I don't know the source of the PAT files, so perhaps my problem is there? They are fairly simple patterns, but I am at a loss

Nope, all straight, plumb and true. I need to try changing the patterns to see if it is the pattern that is goofy, or the location. Weekend work.
