Default communication between Max 2009 and 2010

    Hello,

Is it possibile to transfer photometric lights from scene created in Max 2010 to 2009 version? Format .3ds supports only standard lights.

    Thanks in advance.

Try exporting as an .fbx file. You *should* be able to bring in your photometric lights.

Tried it already - same results as with .3ds format - standard lights only, but thank you for the response.
Still searching, will post if I find a solution.

One of my main gripes has always been the lack of interoperability between versions. As far as I know, fbx and 3ds are the only real methods for importing newer version files. If you do find something, please feel free to post.

Do you have a lot of different photometric lights or are they all the same type?

I was asked a technical question, I don't have exact scene.
Does it matter what types of light are placed in the scene? Something on your mind?

Well...this workaround would be fine with all the same light or groups of similar lights. You could just create point or dummy helper objects and export them backwards with fbx or dwg and then use the clone and align tool to place the lights at each of the helpers as you need them.
