Getting rid of inch and feet marks

I don't think this is possible but I told a user I would find out for sure.

We want to change the a tag to read 12x24 and not 12"x24", is this possible?

Is this tag reading some size parameter of an object, or is it just reading the type name of an object? If the latter, then simply change the name of the family type to not have the inch marks.
