Default Central File and Local Files save

    Hi,

Does any one advice the following

We MEP Department using Revit MEP 2010, the Central file we have seperate for each discipline Like Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing

My question is this... We will save the central file in a common server and the creation of Local file is it possible to divert to that same server in a separate folder, instead of putting it in the local drive (seperate in each member staff computer)

    Thanks a lots

While not necessary or common practice, yes, you can put local files on a server instead of the user's own computer. As you mention, you should use a unique folder for each user otherwise you risk having one user overwrite another user's local file.

    Steve,

Thanks.... Yes will name each team member in a seperate folder in that server. do you think this will save some cost of upgrading the local system ? for using Revit MEP 2010

    again thanks for your time

Just storing the local copies on the server could actually hurt performance. You are opening and saving the local file over the network, which can be slower than on the local machine. Furthermore, the files are still processed on the local machine no matter where they are stored, so that's where the horsepower needs to be.

As Scott wrote, it won't help you (putting local files on the server too) if you are doing it because your workstation specifications are not meeting Revit's needs, sorry.
