Text Parameter for Generic Annotation Family

I ran into an issue. We created a generic annotation family to handle our specifications sheets. Within it are the various categories formatted and aligned. What I need to be able to do is once its loaded into the project and placed on the sheet to be able to gray out sections that are not needed for the particular job. Is there a parameter that I can set up to allow me to change the font color or text type of individual parts of the annotation family?

I tried one thing that seems to work -

I copied the text, pasted in place, and changed the new one to a gray version. Then I set up a yes/no instance parameter in the visibilty setting in the newely created gray text (in the type I unchecked them for default). Once loaded in the project I could go to element properties and choose which text I want grayed. Works great but it does take some setup.
