Default Defines Origin not defining origin in 2010?

    Revit 2010 Structure

I have created a family of beams, and I want the beam centered when placed. I went in to the family editor, unchecked "Defines Origin" on the back plane and checked "Defines Origin" on the center (front/back) plane.

However, when I reload the family, the beam doesn't move relative to the location line.

Also, if I instead simply drag the original plane marked with "defines origin" (to which my geometry is attached,) the beam moves away from the location line even though that plane is supposed to be the insertion origin.

Is there a workaround for this?
