the indicator that shows the spacing and direction is not showing up. the systems still responds when I move columns, but I can't select it for editing. Any ideas why it's not showing up? Thanks.

The actual system can be defined lower then where the beams should up. This is something that happens quite often with 3D Beam Systems. Try selecting in a 3D view to see which level the system is defined on.
