    Default BIM Jobs

I have been keeping an eye on job openings that general contractors have. I have recently noticed, as the job market is picking up in my area, that there are a lot of openings for BIM modeling positions. Just curious if anyone knows why generals are hiring people in these positions and if anyone has a BIM job with a general.

Why are GC's hiring BIM modelers? Because there is huge value in taking a 2D set of plans and building a model to eliminate coordination errors. There is also huge value in creating a model (even if the architect has) to help the GC understand how the building goes together, and to do construction scheduling and logistics planning.

I visit GC's all the time and there are many that have BIM departments and have modelers on staff.

    Hey there,

This also applies to sub-contractors and fabricators.
Our Revit User Group here was just informed of a job opening with a contractor who was looking to do exactly what Scott said above.

They want to model and then import into Navisworks to do collision detection along with other tasks which Contractors are now utilizing and selling as a BIM service to Clients.

    The world is a chang'n.

    Good luck
    Steven
