Default First Rendering - Apartment Kitchen Remodel

This is my first rendering in Revit as I have normally used a sketchy technique exporting to SketchUp and then Photoshop. This was a remodel of my grandfathers old apartment designed by my uncle, who is an architect, and wanted some visuals for some clients. I would appreciated any feedback and help on how to make my lighting better, manage reflections(as you can see I have issues in my second image) and how to create my own materials, I just worked with what was available in Revit and some of them kinda suck Thanks

    Hi,
    I am no expert........
The first shot shows that camera placement matters. Here the camera could have been oriented slightly to the left, and target slightly to the right, just in front of the joinery and onto mosaic tiled splashback / tiling. This should reduce or eliminate the distortion in the shot nearest to the viewer - the fridge handle etc. is distorted and looks weird.
This seems to be easy to do with long shots and its sometimes better to reduce the width to reduce distortion, and sometimes depth for same reason.
It often seems that a vista is a better deal for interiors or trying to be quite tight with the settings.

The second shot is much better proportioned in regard to the first and has good angles.
You said its all prelim stuff so this is fine. Many here seem to favour the "High" setting but dpi range is your choice. In Revit, I will use either 300 or 600 dpi on High for the final depending upon what its for.
Colours often come out pretty washed out in Revit renderings..the default stuff for brick / cmu. stone and so on usually seems low grade and you often have to be prepared to tweak a fair bit to get some punch in the colours.
How about trying to convince them to opt for a contrast in materials and in colours ? to have something dynamic ?
Carry on dude and experiment a lot.

the contrast and punch as you say is very much based on getting the post rendering settings right.... that is adjusting highlights, colour balance etc... you will be amazed what a difference that makes to a final rendering. try adjusting these prior to saving, as you only get one chance outside of photoshop ; which is never the same as it can only partially undo bad settings within the original file... i tend to use both photoshop and revit post rendering settings... but one big improvement is using quality textures.. try turbo squid etc... worth buying some as the default materials - pro materials - really don't produce great results within revit, they are better suited for 3ds max..

    good luck!

I really like the renders. I have to ask tho, is that a TV at knee level in pic 2?

Yes, that is a tv at knee level. I wouldn't have put it there, but I wasn't the designer on this one I just did the rendering.
