Open both drawings in the same instance of Civil 3D, and turn on "Master View" in Toolspace -> Settings, so you can see both drawings. Then drag-n-drop.

Easiest is often to set your target drawing current. Then drag styles out of the style tree and drop them into the drawing area, and they will be added to your current drawing.

I believe this will work also. I know this method will copy most styles into a drawing but it won't transfer over any command settings and such (I think)...

Start a NEW drawing with your template (with all your styles in it), save it as a drawing that you can easily find and retrieve and then insert it into any drawing you want your styles in. It's obviously better to start a drawing with your template but this transfers most of what ya need to keep going.

I do not find that works very well.

In most cases, if you have a drawing that is not C3D, it seems to work better to create a new C3D drawing, then insert your old linework. You can also import the layouts into your new drawing, if desired.

I do the drag and drop method also but I almost always find myself just needing my surface styles or profile styles. A quick insert should do the same thing as a bunch of dragging and dropping.
