Unhappy Save, Zoom and Open are slow

We're a 5 man crew using ACAD Mech 2010. Our files are stored on our main server and we basically work off the files right on the server. The only Xref used is our titleblock and little if any work is ever done locally. About 2 weeks ago we noticed that our Open, Save and Zoom operations became slow. Everything else seems fine.

Any suggestions as to where to start my troubleshooting?

Zoom is totally unrelated to Open or Save, so this seems odd to me. However, make sure you don't have any shortcuts that are pointing to invalid locations in any of the folders on AutoCAD's support path or plotter support folders.

One thing to try is to turn off the new style layer manager.

This helped my PC speed up and reduced crashes. I have set all my shortcuts to classiclayer until I can find time to investigate the problem more.

Clean up your scale list. I notice if the your drawing is fill with huge scale list, it may slow down your drawing. Download the scale list cleanup utility from Autodesk website.
