    Default LCD Monitors

I'm thinking about replacing my old 17" CRT with a big new LCD Monitor. Does anyone have any recommendations? Dell seems to have some nice 19" and 20" LCD's at somewhat reasonable prices. What characteristics of an LCD monitor are important when working with Revit? Contrast Ratio? Wide Aspect? Dot Pitch? I'm looking for something that is going to be really easy on my overworked bloodshot eyes.

    Scott,
We have 6 Samsung 21.3" LCD monitors (Model 213T) here and they actually work really well and they have both DVI and Analog connectors. We are using the DVI connectors and it makes all images sharp and clear. Just remember that if you are doing renderings sometimes the colors are not 100% exactly as a CRT monitor.

    HTH,

Scott- I'm using one of the big Dell ones right now, and it's very very nice. No complaints here at all.

I would suggest getting a Samsung......I have a 15" at home that works really well. Saves alot of desk space Seems that you can get good deals on Samsung screens. Also, while out shopping I have seen other brands that have black dots on the screens.
Ive seen in some articles that Samsung screens are the best.

Look for a DVI connector even if you won't use it right away - better quality for the future. And make a judicious choice about the size of an individual pixel. The quality is best at natural resolution, but at 1600x1200 on 20" the icons and text may get too tiny, although the model will look ultrasharp.

I've got an hp L1925, really good quality.

Although the cost difference between 19" and 20" is disproportional, I would suggest you go for the 20" as it will have a resolution of 1600 x 1200. The majority of 19" monitors tend to be 1280 x 1024, exactly the same as 17" monitors. (ie:19" doesn’t show any more than 17"). However, there are some 19” monitors on the market that will give you a resolution of 1600 x 1200, but you need to look out for them.

Nice point about the DVI input, also they do make some models that can double as a tv
(tuner included) Hmmm, like youur boss would let you have a tv in the office.

lol, I have a TV in my office, but I'm also getting 5.1 surround sound too... it pays to be the multi-media guy around here

anyway, another thing to consider with LCD's is pixel response time, especially if you work with video, motion graphics or animation.......Basically the faster the better, but it should be at least 25ms or less.

there is alot of info on monitors here www.monitorsdirect.com
