    Default Mysterious dots

Does anyone know what these two mysterious dots are?

See attached PDF image to see the dots, then open the attached 2-D Furniture Family to see what is causing them.

Why not just model the family in 3D?

We feel that by drawing this family in 2-D, (rather than modeling in 3-D) we save file size, and thus computing power of our machines. We will be having many of these workstations in our project. We are not selling any modeling information to the client anyway, we are just creating basic construction documents, I did not see the need to have this in 3-D. Does this make sense?

Zoom in so they are visible, pick, and delete. Or window select the area and delete, you'll see on your filter button that two items are selected even though there is no visual indication on the screen.

Right whee the dots are. Just zoom in and you can see them. Window to delete. Nothing special.

Then why not just use 2D vanilla cadd?

When you say "many"--how many ?

We populate large hotel towers with full guestroom groups, all in 3D,
put them on worksets which can be turned on/off where needed.
Furniture, lamps, pillows, curtains, TVs, bathrooms/accessories--you name it.
FF&E specs flow out of the Revit model via E-Specs.

We have full scheduling, visualization, plans, elevations, sections, details,
etc. for the entire hotel tower this way.

When we do casino floors, we will have as many as 4,000 slot machines on large jobs,
We created a family with visibility parameters for "2D and 3D" which can be switched on/off
This did save a lot of computer resources when they did not need to be in 3D, and then the same family can be changed to 3D in camera views, etc. when required.

    cheers.........

Not everyone needs or want's full 3D. I think he spelled it out pretty well.

"We will be having many of these workstations in our project. We are not selling any modeling information to the client anyway, we are just creating basic construction documents, I did not see the need to have this in 3-D."
If you don't have E-spec - you're not extracting spec info. I'm guessing they aren't even under contract for all the furniture. They're just being nice architects and helping with the planning. Some other office systems supplier will make the big bucks on the workstation layout.

They need 2D. So why bother? It works for what they need.
