Unless I am mistaken (more expierenced users, please correct me if I am wrong) but you can not add a feature line to a grading group. Per a previous post you only need to make sure that the feature lines you intend to create grading objects from are in the same site as the intended grading group. For example I may have a two feature lines in two different sites, one called parking lot and the other called entrance road. If I intend to create a grading object from the feature line in the parking lot site, my grading group also needs to be in the parking lot site.

Another interpretation of your question could be that if you had the automatic surface creation box checked when you created your grading group you could then add feature lines as break lines to that surface and they would not have to be in the same site as the grading group. I hope this helped.

You cannot add featurelines to grading groups, but you can add them to a surface created by a grading group. However, a better workflow is to create a surface from a grading group using the automatic surface from grading option and paste it into a master surface representing your site. You would then add any additional featurelines to that master surface. You will want to avoid adding featurelines to the surface created from a grading group since you may need to delete and recreate that surface due to Civil3D's poor implementation of tesselation parameters. The only way to change tesselation parameters is to delete and recreate the surface, so it is best to avoid performing any manual manipulations to a surface created from a grading group.
