Spot Elevation Lower Values

Hi all,

We're finishing up a 2009 project and I wanted to add a lower value to the spot elevations, but am unable to do so. It's grayed out.
This has got to be something easy that I'm missing....right?

Or can you not add text to the bottom of the spot elevation line?

you're almost there, Click the Edit Type button and about half way down the list there is a parameter called Elevation Origin. Its probably set to Project, change it to Relative then hit OK. Now back in the Properties window you can pick different levels within the Project for the Relative Base parameter.

We do have relative checked so it returns the proper value, but we'd like the ceiling material to show in text below the spot elevation.

It seems it would be possible...if not automatically at least a user could type in a lower value. Unfortunately the lower value is grayed out and I don't know why.

Pick one of the tags and in the Option bar there is a pulldown called Display Elevations, change it to Top & Bottom Elevations. This is going to display hieghts for the top and bottom of what ever you tag. Unfortunately you can only add a Prefix/Suffix to an actual value, not replace it with text alone. You do what you are asking with a custom ceiling tag, but it would only work for ceilings, you'd need a floor tag for floors, etc. Also the leaders will have to be eyeballed into place after you set them to Free End.

I get it now. I already made a custom ceiling tag for another job that will suit us fine, but I thought I was missing a trick with the spot elevations.

Yeah, ceiling tags are the way to go. Especially since Spot Elevations reference their height off the level that the VIEW was created from, and not the level the OBJECT was created from. (That gets woah scary when you have stepping floors in Aud's, and rooms at the perimeter 4 feet lower than everything else, LOL)...
