    Default Windows7- 64bit AVI problem

Using a Target Spot with Projector map enabled. Map is an .AVI file. This technique works fine in 32-bit 3ds Max Design 2010 running on an XP machine and not at all on my new much faster Windows 7, 64-bit version.

    See attached:
PMAP1 is as expected (light blue gradient is first frame of animation).
PMAP2 shows no projection at all.

    Thoughts?
Is this some sort of Paths issue?

    Thanks,
    Stephen Scott

It may be a paths problem, but what immediately came to mind was a codec problem. Did you create the avi or get it from another source? Do you know how it was encoded? From my experience, 3ds (and Windows in general) is very limited as far as what codecs it natively supports.

Must be a codec problem: File plays fine on the Win7/64bit machine though it is not recognized by 3dsmax 2010.
Made another test .avi with the new system and it behaves as desired.

Any thoughts on emulating a true dome lens projection in Max?
I can simulate by bouncing the light (using caustics) from a Target Spot off of a spherical mirror object (generate caustics) placed very close to the light on to my dome screen surface (receive caustics). The end result looks good but takes long to render.
Wondering about a more direct method and /or plugins? There are a few on the 3dmaxplugins website but on closer look they appear to be for use in Maya.

    Thank you
