Default Section Planes and Layout Viewports

    Hi all.

Ok, so I am having trouble getting a section view of my model into a viewport in my layout space.

I can get a section plane, and use live section to get the view I want, that isn't a problem. I just can't get a seprate viewport to show this in my layout space. I already have a couple of viewports, showing various view of the model, but I want a couple of sections to show some other areas better.

When I use the live section it effects all the other viewports as well.

I think I might have to set up a named view with the section plane, but this seemed to mess up the other viewports as well when I created a viewport and used this new named view.

I'm sure what I want to do is pretty straightforward, but I just can't work it out.

Any tips or help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jon.

NB, I am actually using vanilla autcoad and not mechanical for this.

Ok, so I have found the solview and soldraw commands, looks like that is what I need to use to do the sectio views I want.

This must be basic stuff for autocad 3D, just never having any tuition I am having to work it all out for myself!

    Getting there though, slowly.

Yes I'm wondering this too. I'd much rather live sections than have to cut 2D sections that don't update. Have you figured this out yet? Seems like a basic task after using Revit.

turn off clipping planes in model tab
in layout tab, switch to model space in one of the viewports and select 3dclip and set the clipping planes. set the viewport scale. pan to center view, Lock the display of the viewport.
set the clipping planes in each viewport
the clipping planes will not change.
