    it has been a long time for this thread, just add my two cents. Been at this line of work for over 30+ years and my current position vs when I first started was always the same. I am salary so need to do my 40 hours, however those weeks where 40 hours is not enough I do what it takes. Sometimes I am paid OT and sometimes not. Office policy dictates that OT is paid when approved by Management. For those times when I am not being paid OT, I do the work because I love it and just need to get that drafting project done.

    Misteracad,
    Ive been curious about the difference between CAD Technician and Designer. Since you mentioned both in your response I wonder if you could give me your thoughts on the difference between the two. Thanks in advance.

    A CAD technician would not necessarily know the end product well enough to make changes on his own. He would need a designer or engineer to give him the necessary information. A designer can work at nearly the level of an engineer.
