Default Need help with mechanical equipment tag

    Hello,

I am trying to create a new mechanical equipment tag. I want
to be able to pull the cfm information of the out-of-the-box
vav equipment. The parameter name is "SuppyAIrFLow".

    1. I created a shared parameter of the same name "SuppyAirFLow",
    Discipline-HVAC, Type Of Parameter-Air Flow.

    2. I edited the "Multi-Category Tag" family and gave it a name
Vav Tag. I created a Label & selected the shared parameter
    (SuppyAIrFLow).

    3. I added the shared parameter in my current model as a Project
    parameter.

    4. I loaded my new Vav Tag into the project.

    The Problem:
Now I have two "SuppyAIrFLow" parameters. My tag reads the shared
    parameter not the out-of-the-box parameter.

    What I'm I doing wrong?

If it is hard coded you will not be able to tag it b/c it is not a shared parameter. As a workaround you would have to create a redundant shared parameter and only use the one that is shared.

    mwiggins,

    Thanks. I needed that answer.

    More questions:
    1. Can I erase the hard coded one?
    2. If not, how will users know which one to fill out.
Of course I will now give the shared parameter a different name.
Maybe "CFM Flow". But still it might still be confusing.
    3. Can we have some kind of formula for both the hard coded one
to be equal to the shared one and vice versa?

The "hardcoded" one is a "family parameter." It can be deleted in the family and / or replaced with the new shared parameter that you created. You can also add your shared parameter to the family and set it equal to the "hardcoded" one - so that the tag reads that parameter.

Either way - I think you'll need to edit the mechanical equipment family to get that information into a tag.

    Gabecottam,

Thank you...Knowing that I have to edit the family either way is
    good to know.

Can you show me how or what the formula should look like.

In the "Family Types" dialog, just type the parameter name after the "=" sign under "Formula"
    (See image)
You have to type it exactly of course, case sensitive and all that.
