Question How to start a Custom Project Template?

Our firm has finished our first Revit Project and are trying to set up a custom project template based on what we used. I have never done this before, and I would like to be able to save the project we just finished as a template file and then edit things from there. When I try to save our project as a template file, however, the option is greyed out.

I know how to make a new Project Template from the Autodesk templates and I tried to transfer project standards, but it didn't seem to bring much into the template file. It seems like it would take much longer to bring things into a new template then it would be just to save a current project as a template and edit from there.

I am new to this so if anyone could shed some light on this for me, I would appreciate it greatly!

    Thanks in advance!

If youre existing project is workshared, it wont let you... File New, make a template, TPS the stuff back in.

Yep, save as a Template works on stand alone project files, but not workshared ones.

For all the developed Schedules you've created in your project you can Save As > Library > Views to document individual views and/or use Views > Insert from a File to bring them into your new template.

    Thanks for the help!

I tried making a copy of the autodesk provided metric template then opened our project at the same time and transferred project standards, but I didn't see all of the linestyles or other elements from the project.

Am I missing some important step?

    Thanks!
