Question pipe crossing in profile: where's my ellipse?

I can't seem to make pipe crossings show up in the profile. I have assigned the appropriate pipes to have a pipe crossing style yet I see nothing in profile. All of the layers are on and thawed. What am I doing wrong here? Is the pipe crossing style not the one to use for this task?

    1) Does the pipe actually cross the alignment or is it just close?
    2) Do you see the pipe in the profile view properties?
    3) Did you override the pipe style for that profile view to show as a crossing pipe?

    Thanks for your response...
    1) the pipes do not cross the alignment but they intersect it (and are properly connected)
    2) the pipes are visible in the PV Properties
    3) I overrode the pipe style in favour of a crossing pipe style

    What did I do wrong?

If the pipe doesn't cross the alignment, nothing will be displayed. Are you trying to show a crossing, as in where the water line crosses the sanitary sewer, or are you trying to show a connecting pipe in a manhole, as in I'm profiling this run of pipes and at this manhole I have another pipe coming into it and I want that pipe to show as an ellipse?

That setting is in the Structure style. On the Display tab, select the Profile options, last in the list is Structure Pipe Outlines, turn this on. You do not need to set the pipe style to crossing for this to work.

Thumbs up Re: pipe crossing in profile: where's my ellipse?

Thanks so much for that tidbit! I was pulling my hair out trying to find that setting.

Question Re: pipe crossing in profile: where's my ellipse?

Where can I locate the structural style setting?

My profile view setting shows that the pipes I'm trying to show are visible in profile.
The pipes are connected to a structure, which is shown in profile, and that structure style setting is set to display structure pipe outlines in the profile.
The pipe style setting is also set to display outside wall in profile.

But it is still not showing up in profile. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

    Thanks!

I just ran into this problem and solved it thanks to this thread. The scenario is you have a structure with pipes connected and you would like the outline of these connected pipes in a profile. As mentioned above, on your structure's style, under the display tab, change to profile and turn on the layer for Structure Pipe Outlines. If they do NOT show up, make sure that on your profile view properties, under the Pipe Networks tab, make sure these connected pipes are not turned on. If they are checked then they will not show up.

I'm using 2009, but presumably this is the same as with newer versions.

    Cheers,
    David
