Default An include/exclude parameter in a family?

(first post, so sorry if this is the wrong forum)

I have a family built with a metal sheet with two L-profile sections to hold it out from the wall.

In this family I want the option to exclude one or the other of the L-profile sections. The only thing I can find which is close is to toggle the visibility of the section, but that wouldn't exclude it from quantity schedules later. Can someone point me in the right direction?

The L profile could simply be 2 families that have been assigned to a parameter. This way if you choose the 1 profile it should automatically update the family and the schedules.

If am not making myself clear I will create an example for you to look at.

Visibility in a family (using the visible yes/no, not the visible in views) WILL alter the quantities. That button should really be called "Element exists," and not "Element is visible."

But the other way is, as mentioned, two nested families with a Family Type selector.
