Default North arrow, nested in a View Title, getting the "N" to rotate

I have a north arrow nested in our view titles, and visible for all plan views, with a parameter to control the True North deviation. I had to make the rotation happen in the nested north arrow, and I am unable to get a little "N" to rotate as well. Of course we are used to (in Acad and Revit) having that little N there and we do a manual rotate, and all is fine. But I seem unable to get the same behavior with the nested component. I started with just a piece of text, but that doesn't work because the text has no meaningul references to align with. So I tried the text in a Generic Annotation, nested in the North Arrow generic annotation, nested in the View Title. I can align and lock the N, but when the ref line rotates the constraints blow up.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks!
    Gordon

Just a guess, but try setting up the rotation parameter / reference line in the view title family, rather than in the generic annotation family, and then align lock the generic annotation family to that.

you don't have to add ref line, for unknown reason, you cannot lock nested text annotation to ref line, you can just add angle parameter directly w/o using ref line.

is your "Keep Readable parameter turned on in the family?

The solution is quite simple, I talked with Gordon about this, but I will add it here.

Make a generic annotation component with your text and north arrow artwork inclusive.

Insert the annotation family into your title block, and add a reference line.

Align and lock your generic annotation to the reference line.

Angular dimension to the reference line, and to the perpendicular component of your arrow detail item.

Add a parameter and assign it to the dimension line and name it whatever you like.
    "North Point" for example.

Group it under dimensions and make it a type parameter.

You may also want to add an on/off toggle to it, because you won't need the arrow on every sheet (like details for example). So add another parameter under graphics, and name it "North on/off" or whatever you want really. This is an instance parameter.

Are you talking about a Title Block and NOT a View Title?

I've been trying to figure this out for a while and can not get it to work inside a View Title family. I get the same error Gordon was talking about, the constraints blow up.

Do you have an example to post?

see attached, as i said before, do not use ref line even though i don't know why, maybe someone or factory can explain it.

I totally mis-read the OP's intent, yes I am referring to titleblock with a north point, my apologies.

I don't have 2011 version so I can't take a look at the one supplied above but if anyone can give out a 2010 version I'll take a look.
