Question Architectural Elements: Residential Construction Details

Has any body bought this book & CD it’s called Architectural Elements: Residential Construction Details
    AUTHOR: Andy Shelander
Does anybody know if these details are any good, or know where I can get typical residential construction details? I have started at a new small firm and they don't have any standards for Cad details. In the past I have worked for firms that mainly do commercial projects. This is my first firm where they do residential and they tend to waste a lot of time trying to look thru old jobs for details. I wanted something that I can build from and use. Any advice?

    Thank You

I think you just it the nail on the head. Your firm already has the details. The details are just not organized yet. You would need to spend some time to organize what you have to make it more useful.

I have mainly worked for structural firms I have made structural standards.
I divide the groups into Concrete, CMU, Tilt-up, Steel and wood.

Would you divide it up the same way for architectural? First building types then I guess you would have to have other elements. Items like Cabinets, roofing material, door types and flooring for example. That was one thing that I was hoping the book would help with to see how they divided everything up.

The K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) method is always the best when organizing blocks/details. Remember, you have these things to save time, if your employees need to search for everything then it begins to eliminate the time savings having these details creates.

I think you are on the right track with what you are doing...

I would think you would need to first see what you have to decide how you want to organize it.

You could also place each detail into a common drawing as a block. Doing this would allow you to create a tool palette to help in your ease of use. You could also use the Design Center as well.

That's what I've done with many of mine, it works really well!
